FORMATION JOURNEY

The time of formation is an opportunity for a young woman to gradually come to know and live the life of Carmel. It is a time of preparation for her total consecration to God.

Postulancy (for one year)

Upon entrance, a woman is introduced to life in Carmel and learns, through experience and classes, more about the vocation of a Carmelite Nun.

Novitiate (for two years)

The novice is clothed in the holy habit of Our Lady and receives a new religious name. The novice continues to deepen her understanding of her vocation and to discern God’s will in her life.

Temporary Profession (for three years)

After two years as a novice, the Sister makes her First Profession of vows, promising obedience, chastity and poverty for three years.

Solemn Profession (lifetime)

At the end of the period of temporary vows, the Sister makes her Solemn Profession and receives the black veil, a sign of her total consecration to God.
